School Supply Drive

The school supplies donated so far at Accents on Main for Jacobson Elementary School. The sale goes through Saturday and supplies can be dropped off until then.

The sign outside Accents in Main this week asking for school supplies for the Jacobson Elementary supply closet.

The PTO in action

I was stopped at school today by a teacher who told me that he had three new students come in with nothing this week. Thanks to the supply closet at the elementary school he was able to go in and outfit them with everything they needed to begin the school year on the right foot.

Thank you to everyone who has donated supplies or money to stock the closet. It makes a huge difference to the children and to the teachers who, I have no doubt, would be picking the supplies up themselves.

Supply Closet for Teachers

The PTO keeps a cabinet in the elementary teacher’s workroom that is stocked with school supplies and available to all teachers all year long to fill in gaps in any supplies during the year or to help those students who may have difficulty obtaining their supplies.

Accents on Main is helping with a supply drive next week. Follow this link to the 2010-2011 supply list to see what is needed and stop by Accents on Main next Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday to drop off your donation and receive 5% off any one item.

Thank you for your support of the students, teachers, and the PTO!

PTO Family Movie Night

Tonight is PTO Family Movie Night at Jacobson Elementary!

The fun starts at 6:30. Wear your jammies and bring your pillow, blankets, and/or bean bag chairs, (but no lawn chairs please). The popcorn and bottled water is on the PTO but feel to bring your own munchies, we just ask that all drinks have lids if possible to cut down on spills.

It's going to be a fabulous, minion-filled time as we watch "Despicable Me".

It would be great to get as many people at the meeting as possible so that we can plan these events and gather volunteers for them.

Thanks and we hope to see you there.

Good news! The PTO is now on Twitter!

Not familiar with Twitter? No worries, I’ll explain what the advantages are of being on Twitter. First, it’s FREE to join! It’s a fast and east way to announce tidbits of information like meeting notices, location/time changes, meeting cancellations, upcoming activities, etc. It only takes a few minutes to setup an account and you can make it as private or as public as you want. And the cool thing is, you don’t ever have to post a tweet! You can simply join to follow the people or groups you are interested in. Twitter will even send tweets to your mobile device, which may come in very handy if the meeting location is changed last minute and you won’t be checking email or Facebook prior to the meeting.

We hope you will follow us, as we plan to keep this as up-to-date as possible! Our username is: JacobsonPTO

If you are looking for a more formal description of Twitter, here is the actual “About Twitter” taken from their website: Twitter is a real-time information network that connects you to the latest information about what you find interesting. Simply find the public streams you find most compelling and follow the conversations. At the heart of Twitter are small bursts of information called Tweets. Each Tweet is 140 characters in length, but don’t let the small size fool you—you can share a lot with a little space. Connected to each Tweet is a rich details pane that provides additional information, deeper context and embedded media. You can tell your story within your Tweet, or you can think of a Tweet as the headline, and use the details pane to tell the rest with photos, videos and other media content. You don’t have to build a web page to surf the web and you don’t have to tweet to enjoy Twitter. Whether you tweet 100 times a day or never, you still have access to the voices and information surrounding what interests you. You can contribute, or just listen in and retrieve up to the second information. Some people never tweet, they simply use Twitter as a way to get the latest information on their interests.
