New! Updated list of needed items

I don't know what to say. I am absolutely blown away by everyone's generosity. I first put this information out less than 48 hours ago (less than 24 hours for the detailed stuff) and already the list is almost done. Hats off to the Jacobson Elementary families! This is the kind of thing that I wish that the newspapers covered: the community stepping up to help kids and teachers. I am so proud, and not at all surprised! I knew this is the kind of people we were all along. Thank you!

Teacher Appreciation Week

What we need:
Monday: A little more chalk and a couple more volunteers to wait outside school in the morning to show the kids what to do. A box for each teacher’s room for the notes from parents and students

Tuesday: Bars or cookies, apples, pears, grapes, bananas, oranges, candy, brownies, paper plates, and napkins

Wednesday: Bagels, cream cheese, butter, blueberry muffins, cinnamon rolls, bread, grape jam, toaster, fruit (oranges, bananas, apples, pears, grapes), milk, orange juice, paper cups, paper plates, napkins.

Thursday: Banana split toppings (chocolate syrup, bananas, cherries, canned whipped cream, nuts, and other toppings) ice cream (a big plastic tub of vanilla and one of chocolate) ice cream scoops, bowls, spoons.

Please let me know if you are willing or able to provide something and I will take it off the list so we don’t end up with a lot of one thing and none of the others.

Colt Track Meet (for kids in grades 3rd-8th)
May 8, 2010, 9am until 1pm or so, Belmond-Klemme High School Track

Scotcharoos, cinnamon rolls, bottled water, snack mix, Gatorade More bars or anything else you can think of that would be good to see here. We can also use a lot more baked goods!

Jacobson Teacher’s Lounge Kitchen Shower

The teachers have a beautiful lounge but nothing in it. The idea was brought to me that we should have a “kitchen shower” to help them out. I was going to open this up to the whole school in the letter I am sending out about Teacher Appreciation Week, but since before I even posted the teacher’s wish list I have already received a lot of what they wanted I think that this may be something that the PTO members could do. I don’t want to ask too much of you guys. What do you think?

Teacher Appreciation Week & Colt Track Meet

We have a couple of busy weeks coming up for the PTO. Next week, May 3-7, is Teacher Appreciation Week and the committee has planned something for each day that week as well as a week-long "Kitchen Shower" for the teacher's lounge. The shower is an attempt to try to stock the lounge which is lovely, but has no utensils or dish towels at all. That means any time we, or someone else brings something for them, serving items and silverware have to be brought in or they have to buy plastic. I will have the teacher’s “registry” posted on Facebook, online, and at the front desk at Jacobson so people can see what is needed.

We will also ask that any parents and students that wish to send a note or picture to school for their teacher which they will place in a box right outside of the classroom. On Friday these boxes will be presented by the students to each teacher.

Here is the break down for the week:

Friday, April 30: I will send a letter out to all students announcing the week’s activities. Tell them about kitchen shower, letters from kids and parents to be put in boxes, and chalk Walk of Appreciation.

I have ordered the bananas already in order to get the best quality and the right quantity on the day we need them.

Colt Track Meet (for kids in grades 3^rd-8^th)

May 8, 2010, 9am until 1pm or so, Belmond-Klemme High School Track

We have been offered the chance to run the concession stand at this event. Right now they have nothing so anything we do will be better than that. I have talked to a few people about this and I think it is worth doing this in order to raise a little money if we can but I want to be careful that we don’t over extend ourselves and end up with a lot of left over items. I would love it if as many people as possible could donate baked goods since that doesn’t require any cash output from the PTO and comes back as pure profit. We do have a volunteer who is bringing 2 cinnamon rolls and I will pick up water and Gatorade.

Do we just want to do breakfast things?

How about fruit like bananas or pears or apples?

Is anyone able to come and work at the concession stand? I can be there to open it and stay until 11 or so. Once again, please let me know what you can do or bring so I can make sure we have a good selection.

I can’t thank you enough for all that you have done. I was at a Belmond Area Arts Council meeting last night and I heard lots of good (and unsolicited!) comments about how great the PTO is and how much it means to the teachers. I think this s especially important in this time of uncertainty in our district. We are an example of pride and good work to be proud of! Thank you all!
